Legendary digital communications pioneer and namesake of USC's Viterbi School of Engineering Andrew J. Viterbi was one of eight people awarded the 2007 National Medal of Science, the nation's highest honor for science and technology, at a gala Sept. 29.
Viterbi won the award for his development of the maximum-likelihood algorithm for convolutional coding, known as the "Viterbi algorithm," which is a method for solving complex mathematical problems.

TrojanTransportation and USCard launched the 800-USC-TAXI initiative Wednesday, allowing students to pay for Yellow Cab taxis with USC discretionary money and providing an additional option for late-night student transportation.

Greek life at Oxy shifted into high gear last week as new pledges were courted and recruited during rush week, Sept. 15 - 19. While rush happens twice a year, this is Oxy's second year of the new pledge procedure where informal rush occurs in fall and formal rush (open to first-years) takes place in the spring.
